BodyMouth

BodyMouth is a novel instrument by Kat Mustatea that augments the body to produce speech through movement, using body-worn sensors and real-time speech synthesis.

BodyMouth is a novel instrument that augments the body to produce speech through movement, using body-worn sensors and real-time speech synthesis. The resulting sound and movement spectacle articulates an entirely new kind of performance vocabulary—reorienting language and neurosensory perception.

Experienced via sensory performance and installation, BodyMouth is a meditation on the bleak history of totalitarian rule in Eastern Europe, our current politics of whose voices are heard, and the necessity for alternate modes of speech as an urgent form of survival and resistance.

Part research, part live art, this multimodal project expands our relationship to language—creating a new system of vocalization as a provocation for resisting oppressive systems.

In collaboration with the artist we provided creative and technical production on the development of the project towards a full-length premiere and presentation due to be presented in Fall of 2025. In addition to creative development, casting and rehearsals, we produced key strategic materials for the project including a pitch deck and project trailer.
